Sippy Cup Victory over the Bottle

We love the Olympics in our house.  We try to watch each night (except when Lost is on, there are priorities).  This week Jay has been competing in his own event of "No More Bottle, per Doctor's Instructions".  The cleft doctor wants him off the bottle before his surgery because the nipple is too long and will rub against his new palate and stitches after surgery.  Currently the surgery is not officially scheduled but we are planning for someday during the week of April 12.

So we started with water in the Nuby brand (soft "spill" proof nipple).  He got used to that but wouldn't hold it.  We needed to get him off the morning and evening bottle of milk or formula and put his milk in the sippy.  We was none too happy about this development.  Us trying to hold the sippy cup while he tried to bat it across the room went we were doing this for an hour.  That was not gonna do it.

After a few days of him not finishing the 8oz of milk, I put him in is high chair for the second round of the Sippy Cup event of Olympics de Manza.  He really pulled out all the stops and really gave it everything he had and even held the cup himself and he left the high chair with a Silver medal (sippy cup?) for his efforts.  Last night he took the challenge again and he made the cut and finished number one but he still had another round to go (don't you wish Bob Costas was narrating instead of me?).

So this morning, fresh after a good nights sleep, he really had all the form and function of an 18mos old!  He finished the milk in record (sippy cup) time and stood atop the podium (carpet) with Gold! U.S.A.!  U.S.A.!  [Cut to gleaming parents in the bleaches with snow hats on that say "Go Jay"]

The highlights are not on NBC but can be found at the following link:  the first two videos show his skill and triumph.  Links:  Day One and Day Two

He would like to thank his family and friends, his coach (Shades) and his sponser (Nuby).

Hugs to everyone!
